Start your path into Adult Education Training with the beginner-friendly VTCT (ITEC) Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET). This recognised teaching certificate is ideal for those new to teaching and trainers/facilitators seeking a solid introduction to lesson planning, delivery and evaluation. You’ll build confidence through microteaching while learning how to design engaging sessions for adult learners.

This VTCT (ITEC) Level 3 Adult Education Training course is open to beginners. There are no formal prerequisites required to study this course. You should be able to:

The VTCT (ITEC) Level 3 Award in Education and Training is an introductory teacher training course designed for anyone looking to start a career in teaching or training in the further education and skills sector. This qualification is ideal if you are new to adult education training courses and want to gain the essential skills to plan, deliver and assess learning effectively.
As part of this education course, you will complete three home-based assignments:
UET1 – Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training
Learn about the key responsibilities of a teacher or trainer and how to build effective professional relationships in the learning environment.
UET2 – Understanding and Using Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches in Education and Training
Develop the knowledge and skills to create inclusive lessons that engage and motivate learners. You will also plan, deliver and evaluate a short microteaching session.
UET5 – Understanding Assessment in Education and Training
Explore different methods of assessment, learn how to involve learners in the process and understand the importance of record keeping in education.
Your final assessment will be a microteaching session lasting between 15–30 minutes, where you will demonstrate your teaching skills on a subject of your choice. This practical exam can be scheduled once all assignments are complete and can be taken remotely over a live video session - simply email us to arrange a convinient date.
You will have up to one year to complete the VTCT (ITEC) Level 3 Award in Education and Training, making it a flexible option for those balancing study with work or other commitments.
By completing this qualification, you will gain a strong foundation in teacher training courses, opening doors to further education courses and career opportunities in adult education training.

1. Associate/Assistant Tutor or Trainer
Teach or support learners in further education colleges, private training providers, adult learning centres, or charities.
Often in subjects where you already hold expertise (e.g. beauty therapy, massage, fitness, health and social care, business).
2. In-House Trainer (Corporate/Workplace Settings)
Deliver training sessions or workshops within a business or organisation.
Common in sectors like retail, health and safety, hospitality, and customer service.
3. Private Course Provider / Instructor
Design and run your own short courses or workshops (e.g. wellness, fitness, holistic therapies).
Ideal if you’re self-employed or want to expand your existing business with accredited training.
4. Teaching Assistant in Adult Education or FE
Support qualified teachers while gaining experience and progressing to higher teaching roles.
5. Progression to Full Teaching Qualifications
