Kinetic Chain Release (KCR) Course London

FHT & IGCT Accredited Training

The Kinetic Chain Release (KCR) Course at London School of Massage is a practical, hands-on training course designed for both complete beginners and qualified therapists who wish to learn a structured approach to improving body balance, mobility and overall physical wellbeing.
Kinetic Chain Release is a gentle, non-invasive bodywork system that uses a sequence of mobilisations, stretches and alignment techniques to help restore balance throughout the body. What You Will Learn in this Kinetic Chain Release (KCR) Course

Kinetic Chain Release (KCR) is a total-body treatment using a sequence of gentle mobilisations and stretches, developed by Scottish physiotherapist Hugh Gilbert in 1990. It is designed to help restore balance throughout the body, support natural alignment and improve overall movement and function.

This Kinetic Chain Release (KCR) course teaches students how to carry out a structured total-body treatment using a sequence of gentle mobilisations, stretches and positioning techniques. The course introduces the idea of the body as an interconnected system, where restriction or imbalance in one area may affect posture, movement and comfort elsewhere.

Students will learn the key principles of KCR and how it can be used to support body balance, alignment and mobility. The practical training will guide students through the full KCR protocol step by step, including safe client positioning, controlled application of mobilisations and stretches, and how to work within the client’s natural range of movement.

The course will also cover basic observation skills, including posture, pelvic alignment, shoulder position and general movement quality. Students will learn how to work gently and effectively without using forceful manipulation or deep pressure, making KCR suitable for beginners as well as qualified therapists wishing to add a structured treatment to their practice.

Professional practice will also be included, such as consultation, contraindications, cautions, client consent, aftercare advice and knowing when to refer. By the end of the course, students should feel confident in delivering a full KCR treatment and understand how it may complement massage, sports massage, personal training, yoga, Pilates or other wellbeing practices.

During the course, you will learn:

  • The background and principles of Kinetic Chain Release
  • How the body functions as an interconnected kinetic chain
  • How restrictions may influence posture, movement and comfort
  • The purpose of gentle mobilisations and stretches within KCR
  • Safe client positioning throughout the treatment
  • How to perform the full KCR protocol step by step
  • How to work within the client’s comfortable range of movement
  • Basic postural and movement observation skills
  • How to adapt techniques for comfort and safety

Why study Kinetic Chain Release at London School of Massage?

London School of Massage offers professional, practical and supportive training for beginners and qualified therapists. This course provides a structured introduction to KCR and helps students develop safe, confident and effective hands-on skills that can be used within a modern bodywork setting.

The kinetic chain refers to the way different parts of the body are connected and influence each other during movement. For example, restriction in the hips may affect the lower back, knees or posture. KCR looks at the body as a connected system rather than treating one area in isolation.

This course is suitable for beginners, massage therapists, sports massage therapists, holistic therapists, personal trainers, movement professionals and anyone interested in learning a structured approach to body balancing.

Kinetic Chain Release, often known as KCR, is a gentle bodywork system that uses a sequence of stretches and mobilisations to help bring the body back into better balance. It aims to release tension, improve alignment and support more comfortable movement.
