Student Policy

London School of Massage – Student Policy

1. Introduction

London School of Massage (LSM) is committed to providing high-quality professional training in massage, sports massage, complementary therapies and related subjects. This policy explains the conduct, attendance, safety, assessment and professional standards expected of learners.
This policy should be read alongside the London School of Massage Terms and Conditions, course information, enrolment details, assessment requirements and any awarding organisation requirements where applicable.

2. Enrolment and course eligibility

• Students are responsible for checking that they meet the entry requirements for their chosen course before enrolling.
• Where a course leads to an externally recognised qualification, students must meet the relevant awarding organisation requirements.
• If a student does not meet the required entry criteria, London School of Massage may only be able to issue an attendance certificate rather than a qualification certificate.
• Students must provide accurate information during enrolment, including prior qualifications, health conditions, medication, learning support needs and any information relevant to safe participation.
• The centre may request evidence of qualifications, identification or supporting documentation where required.

3. Course materials and digital content

• Course materials, manuals, online resources and digital files are provided for personal study use only.
• Students must not copy, share, distribute, reproduce, sell or publish London School of Massage course materials without written permission.
• Where digital materials are supplied during the statutory cancellation period, cancellation rights may be affected in accordance with the Terms and Conditions.

4. Attendance and punctuality

• Students are expected to attend all scheduled teaching days, practical sessions, assessments and examinations.
• Students must arrive on time and remain for the full duration of the class. Leaving early may affect the ability to complete required training hours or practical outcomes.
• If a student is unable to attend, they must inform London School of Massage as soon as possible.
• Missed classes, late attendance or non-attendance may require the student to book additional training, transfer to another date or pay applicable fees in line with the Terms and Conditions.

5. Transfers, cancellations and postponements

• Requests to transfer, postpone or cancel a course must be made in writing.
• Transfers are subject to availability, administrative approval and any applicable transfer fees.
• Once a student has been enrolled, allocated a place or provided with course materials, additional terms may apply.
• London School of Massage reserves the right to refuse repeated transfer requests where these fall outside the permitted terms.

6. Student conduct

Students are expected to behave respectfully, professionally and appropriately at all times. This includes:
• Treating tutors, staff, students, models and clients with respect.
• Maintaining professional boundaries.
• Using appropriate language and behaviour.
• Following tutor instructions during practical work.
• Respecting the learning environment and facilities.
• Not disrupting the class or affecting the learning of others.
• Maintaining confidentiality regarding other students, clients and case studies.

Bullying, harassment, discrimination, aggressive behaviour, inappropriate conduct or refusal to follow reasonable instructions will not be tolerated. The centre may remove a student from a course where behaviour is unsafe, disruptive or unprofessional. Fees may not be refundable in such cases.

7. Health, Safety and Hygiene

• Students must follow all health, safety and hygiene procedures taught during the course.
• Students must maintain personal hygiene, wash or sanitise hands, keep nails short where required, use clean towels and couch covers and use equipment safely.
• Students must not attend class if they are unwell, infectious or unable to participate safely.
• Students must inform the tutor of any injury, health condition, medication, pregnancy or other relevant factor that may affect their ability to give or receive treatment safely.
• The centre may prevent a student from participating in practical work where there are concerns about safety, hygiene or suitability.

8. Practical training and working on other students

• Many courses involve students working on each other in a classroom setting.
• Students may be required to dress down appropriately for practical work depending on the treatment being taught.
·  Students should be aware that changing for practical work may take place within the teaching space, as separate
changing space is not available.
• Modesty will be maintained through correct towel draping and professional classroom standards.
• Students must respect the dignity, privacy and boundaries of others at all times.
·  Full towel draping protocols will be applied at all times to maintain modesty and prevent unnecessary exposure.
·  Students are expected to give and receive treatment unless they have informed the centre in advance, in writing, of a valid medical or personal reason.

9. Equipment, uniform and additional items

• Students are responsible for bringing any required items for their course, which may include towels, couch covers, oils, uniform, consultation forms, stationery or equipment.
• Course fees may not include all items required for study, practice, case studies or examination.
• Failure to bring required items may affect participation in practical training or assessment.

10. Case studies and home practice

• Where case studies are required, students must complete them honestly, safely and in accordance with guidance provided.
• Students must obtain appropriate consent from case study clients and maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Students are responsible for arranging their own case study clients unless otherwise stated.
• Students must hold suitable student insurance before carrying out case studies or home practice.
• Once qualified, students are responsible for upgrading to professional insurance before treating paying clients.
• The centre may request that students submit their first case study or treatment write-up for feedback before continuing further case studies.

11. Assessments and examinations

• Students must meet all course and awarding organisation requirements before being entered for assessment or examination.
• Requirements may include attendance, case studies, coursework, practical skills, theory assessments, portfolio work and other required evidence.
• Students must attend examinations on the confirmed date and bring any required documents, models, equipment, uniform or materials.
• If a student fails to attend, is late, is not prepared or does not meet the required assessment standard, they may need to resit or rebook the examination. Resit and transfer fees may apply.
• Where a student cannot attend an examination due to illness, medical evidence may be required for any reduced resit or transfer fee to be considered.

12. Certification

• Certificates will only be issued once all course requirements, assessments, paperwork, case studies, fees and awarding organisation requirements have been completed successfully.
• For externally awarded qualifications, certification is subject to awarding organisation verification and processing times.
• London School of Massage cannot guarantee certification where a student has not completed all required elements or has not met the required standard.
• Attendance certificates may be issued where applicable, but they do not replace regulated qualifications or professional certification unless clearly stated.

13. Learning support and reasonable adjustments

• Students should inform the centre as early as possible if they have a learning need, disability, medical condition or other support requirement.
• Reasonable adjustments may be considered where appropriate and where permitted by the course structure or awarding organisation.
• Students may be asked to provide supporting evidence so that reasonable adjustments can be reviewed and arranged in advance.

14. Professional boundaries and client care

• Students must maintain professional standards when working with fellow students, clients, models or case study participants.
• Students must gain consent, explain treatment clearly, maintain appropriate draping, respect contraindications and work within their scope of training.
• Students must not diagnose medical conditions, make inappropriate claims or work beyond their level of training.
• Where a client presents with a medical condition, contraindication or concern outside the student’s scope of practice, the student must seek tutor guidance or refer the client to an appropriate healthcare professional.

15. Complaints and Concerns

• Students should raise concerns as soon as possible, preferably with the tutor or administration team.
• If the matter is not resolved, students may be asked to submit their concern in writing.
• Complaints will be reviewed in line with London School of Massage procedures and any relevant awarding organisation requirements.
• Students are expected to communicate respectfully during the complaints process.

16. Images, videos and social media

• Students must not take photographs, videos or audio recordings during class without permission from the tutor and the individuals involved.
• Students must not post images, videos, comments or course content on social media where this breaches confidentiality, professional standards, copyright or privacy.
• The centre may take photographs or videos for educational or promotional purposes only where appropriate consent has been obtained.

17. Fees and outstanding payments

• Students are responsible for ensuring that all course fees, instalments, examination fees, transfer fees, resit fees and other charges are paid by the required deadlines.
• London School of Massage may withhold course access, examination entry, results or certification where fees remain outstanding.

18. Changes to courses

• London School of Massage may make reasonable changes to course dates, tutors, venues, content, structure or delivery where necessary.
