The VTCT (ITEC) Level 3 Diploma in Massage is a recognised entry-level qualification for anyone wishing to become a professionally qualified massage therapist. Suitable for complete beginners, the course combines anatomy, physiology and pathology with supervised practical training in professional full-body massage.
Students learn holistic and Swedish massage techniques, client consultation, contraindications, treatment planning, professional draping and therapist posture. The qualification also includes written assignments, case studies, treatment evidence and final theory and practical assessments.
The course is delivered through blended learning, with five days of theory training and five days of in-person practical massage training. Most students complete the qualification within approximately three to four months.
After successfully completing the qualification and obtaining appropriate professional insurance, graduates can work as employed or self-employed massage therapists or progress to sports massage, aromatherapy, reflexology and advanced massage courses.

The qualification is completed in four stages:
1. Anatomy, physiology and pathology training
2. In-person practical massage training
3. Home study, assignments and 36 recorded treatments
4. Online theory and in-person practical examinations
Attending the ten training days alone does not complete the qualification. Students must successfully complete all coursework and assessments before certification.
Weekday practical courses are generally delivered at the Caledonian Road venue near King’s Cross. Weekend practical courses are generally delivered at the Harrow venue.

You will learn anatomy, physiology and pathology, professional consultation skills, contraindications, client care, full-body holistic massage techniques, draping, posture, therapist self-care, case study writing and business practice for complementary therapies.
The course teaches holistic and Swedish massage techniques, including effleurage, petrissage, percussion, vibration, passive movements and stretching. Students also learn how to perform a full-body massage routine, including the face and abdomen.
The course is taught through a combination of theory, practical demonstration, supervised hands-on practice and home study. Students practise on each other in class and complete case studies in their own time.
At London School of Massage, the course is usually completed within approximately 3 to 4 months, including theory, practical training, case studies, assignments and final exams.
Students complete a theory exam, a practical massage exam, case study evidence and written assignments. The theory exam is multiple choice, while the practical exam is assessed in person by an external ITEC examiner.
Students complete 36 massage treatments in total. This includes 16 case study treatments across 8 clients, plus evidence of a further 20 treatments, with a minimum of 15 different clients overall.
After qualifying, students can progress to Level 3, 4 or 5 Sports Massage, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Deep Tissue Massage, Pregnancy Massage, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Hot Stone Massage and other CPD massage courses.
