Tok Sen Massage is a traditional Northern Thai (Lanna) bodywork technique where a therapist uses a small wooden hammer and wedge/stick to create gentle, rhythmic tapping along the body’s “sen” (energy) lines. The tapping produces a soothing vibration through the soft tissues and is usually performed over light clothing, often as a standalone treatment or combined with Thai massage.
Tok Sen is most commonly used to support relaxation and help ease muscle tightness through vibration-based tapping. Commonly reported benefits include:
Tok Sen shouldn’t be painful - most people describe it as deeply relaxing with a tapping/vibration sensation. A well-trained therapist will start gently, check in regularly, and adjust pressure to your comfort. You may feel mild tenderness in very tight areas, but you should always speak up if anything feels sharp, uncomfortable, or too intense.
