What You Will Learn in this Table Thai Massage Course?

Table Thai Massage is a practical, hands-on training course for qualified massage therapists who want to learn how to safely apply Thai Yoga Massage techniques on a massage table. This Table Thai Massage course introduces students to the origins, principles and practical application of Thai-style assisted stretching, acupressure and rhythmic compression without the need to work on the floor.

The course combines theory with practical application, covering client preparation, contraindications, safe body mechanics and a structured Thai massage routine performed on a massage couch. Students will learn how to use body weight, stretching and pressure techniques to support flexibility, mobility, relaxation and overall wellbeing.

During the course, you will learn:

  • The origins and principles of Thai Yoga Massage
  • How Table Thai Massage differs from traditional floor-based Thai massage
  • How to prepare the treatment space, massage table, bolsters and supports
  • How to position the client safely and comfortably on the massage table
  • Contraindications, cautions and when medical approval may be required
  • Why Table Thai Massage is usually performed fully clothed without oils
  • How to use body weight rather than muscular strength during treatment
  • How to apply acupressure, palm pressing, thumb pressing and assisted stretching techniques
  • How to work safely with the feet, legs, arms, hands, back, shoulders, neck and head
  • How to perform stretches such as knee-to-chest, groin rotation, shoulder circles, torso side stretch, cobra and spinal twist
  • How to work in supine, side-lying, prone and seated positions
  • How to adapt pressure, stretch and movement to suit the client’s comfort and mobility
  • How to maintain flow, focus and connection throughout the treatment
  • How to combine Table Thai techniques with oil massage where appropriate
  • The importance of draping, modesty and client dignity if oil is incorporated
  • How to provide aftercare advice and gather client feedback after treatment
  • The importance of insurance, professional boundaries, client safety and risk management

Important note: Traditional Table Thai Massage is performed fully clothed to protect the client’s skin and allow safe assisted stretching. If Table Thai techniques are combined with oil massage, careful draping must always be used to preserve the client’s modesty, dignity and comfort.

This Table Thai Massage course gives therapists the practical skills and confidence to deliver Thai-inspired assisted stretching, acupressure and compression techniques on a massage table, making it a useful addition to an existing massage or bodywork practice.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Table Thai Massage

What is Table Thai Massage?

Table Thai Massage (also called Thai Table Massage) is an adaptation of traditional Thai massage techniques, such as acupressure-style compressions and assisted stretching. Table Thai is performed on a massage table rather than on a floor mat. It’s a practical way to deliver Thai-inspired bodywork in a clinic/spa setting and can be ideal for clients who prefer a table-based treatment.

At the London School of Massage, the Table Thai Massage course is a 1-day intensive course and on successful completion you can use the title “Table Thai Massage Therapist.” The course is open to therapists with a Level 3 RQF massage qualification (or higher).

The Table Thai Massage qualification at the London School of Massage is recognised by major insurers, with practitioner insurance available on completion.

The main differences between a Table Thai Massage and a Thai Massage are:

  • Traditional Thai massage is typically done on a mat on the floor, whereas Table Thai Massage is done on a massage table.
  • Table Thai Massage is often chosen when a client may find it difficult to get down to (or up from) the floor, or when therapists work primarily in table-based settings.
  • Both styles use Thai-inspired methods (compressions, acupressure and stretching), but Table Thai Massage adapts movements safely for the table while still delivering a Thai-style treatment flow.

Table Thai Massage benefits include deep relaxation, reduced muscle tension, and improved flexibility and mobilitythanks to Thai-style compressions, acupressure and assisted stretching—adapted to be delivered comfortably on a massage table. Many clients also report feeling lighter, looser and more energised, as the techniques can help increase blood and oxygen delivery to treated areas.
